The San Antonio AIDS Foundation's Walk for Life was the beneficiary of
the first annual Cocktails Under the Stars held on September 10 at a beautiful
private residence on the far North Side.
The event, organized by SAAF's board vice president Miguel Sepulveda,
featured plentiful food and cocktails and a special performance by singer
Mallorie who also autographed copies of her latest CD.
Sepulveda says he thanks to all who attended the event and added that
he hopes to make it an annual event.
"We raised $2000.00 that night for the Walk for Life," says
Sepulveda. "Thanks again to Alan Beckstead, Danny Lerma, Steve Annala
for lending your amazing home. Thank you Regina Villalobos and Gabriel
Rosas for your leadership that night."

Citi rally kicks off Walk for Life
fundraising
QSanAntonio.com, August 11, 2011
Employees of the Citi call center located on San Antonio's far West Side
held a rally on August 10 to kick off their fundraising efforts for the
San Antonio AIDS Foundation's Walk for Life which this year is slated
for September 17 at Woodlawn Lake Park.
In the five years since it began its participation, Citi, through the
efforts of its employee teams and it's event sponsorship has become the
biggest single contributor to the annual Walk for Life. Last year their
contribution was $18,000. This year's goal is $25,000.
At the rally, Citi employees were encouraged to join one of the 18 employee
teams that have been organized to participate in the Walk. Citi Site President
Norman Wright told employees at the rally that AIDS affects everyone and
encouraged participation in Citi's fundraising efforts.
Another tactic being used by Citi to help raise funds for the Walk are
wardrobe coupons which employees can purchase. The coupons allow Citi
workers to wear Bermuda shorts to work on Fridays during the summer.
Citi also used the rally as an occasion to present SAAF with a check for
$5,000 earmarked for the agency's transitional housing program.
“Citi has been remarkably supportive of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation.
We feel that their participation helps build awareness of HIV to a broader
community,” says SAAF's Executive Director David Ewell. “Citi’s
connection to its employees and the community is exemplary. We are fortunate
to have them in our corner.”
The Walk for Life begins at 8:30 a.m. on September 17
at Woodlawn Lake Park with registration and submission of collected donations.
The Walk begins at around 9:30 a.m. and takes about an hour and a half
to complete. The event concludes with a closing ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
Those interested in participating can get all the necessary information
and forms at WalkForLifeSA.com.

Crystal Stone remembers back to 1991 when she participated in her first
AIDS walk in her hometown of Philadelphia. “I told myself to get
involved in something and not wait for it to hit home and then get involved.
I walked, made some friends and shed some tears and we raised a lot of
money for HIV/AIDS,” she says.
