LGBT-welcoming Lutheran church installs new pastor
QSanAntonio.com, May 10, 2012

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the only Lutheran congregation in San Antonio to openly welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender believers, will celebrate the installation of it's new pastor, the Rev. Charles A. Fredrickson, on Saturday, May 12.

The installation worship service will confirm and celebrate the relationship among the local church, its pastor, the Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The ELCA is the largest Lutheran denomination in the US with over 10,000 member congregations and 4.2 million members across the nation, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Rev. Fredrickson is an experienced pastor having served congregations in Wisconsin and as a missionary in Japan. His installation at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is for a two-year term.

Pastors from the community have been invited to attend the installation and members of the congregation will play significant roles in this service. The Rev. Sandra Leifeste, pastor of House of Prayer Lutheran, and Alamo Conference dean of the Southwest Texas Synod of the ELCA will preach and preside.

This fall, the church proudly celebrates its 60th year of ministry on the southeast side of San Antonio. It worships weekly at 10:30 am. with Sunday School available. Local LGBT activist Dan Graney is a member of the congregation.

The church's sanctuary, educational facilities and air conditioned gym are well known for providing rental space to the community. A long standing ministry of the congregation is Good Shepherd's state certified day school for newborns to 5 year olds. The church is also home to Premier Leadership Academy, a charter public school.

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd invites the community to celebrate the installation of the Rev. Charles A. Fredrickson at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 at the church which is located at 1630 Goliad Road. The installation service will be followed by a light reception hosted by the congregation.
