H-A-C awarded HIV testing funds
QSanAntonio.com, September 29, 2011

Hope Action Care was awarded an additional $50,000 to expand their HIV testing under two of their four Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration projects for a one year period.

The award is in support of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy which is to expand HIV testing to reduce HIV incidence while increasing access to care by immediately linking newly diagnosed people to continuous and coordinated care.

Michael Acuna, Director of Prevention Services for H-A-C, stated that the award will help support the allocation of resources based on the latest epidemiological data about who is being affected and other data that indicate which are the most urgent unmet needs to be addressed.

Andy Villa of Meyers Villa & Associates provided consulting services in preparing the proposed workplan to SAMHSA.

According to Acuna, the award is a reflection of the excellent working relationship H-A-C has established with SAMHSA based on results including improving the quality of life for clients enrolled in H-A-C's SAMHSA and Texas Department of State Health Services HIV Testing projects.

H-A-C offers HIV testing at two locations: 132 West Grayson Street, one block west of the Pearl Brewery Complex (224-7330) and 1711 Guadalupe Street @ Trinity Street (212-4235).
