GLBT activists seek united presence at MLK march
QSanAntonio.com, January 7, 2012

Activists from around the community are asking that all GLBT groups march together in unity during the Martin Luther King Day March on January 16. "Let's unite the GLBT community on this important day, at the nation's largest MLK March," said Darrell Parsons from the local chapter of the Human Rights Camaign.

Several queer and queer-friendly groups including the Stonewall Democrats, HRC, MCC San Antonio, and Esperanza Peace and Justice Center march annually. This will be one of the first times that an effort is being made to show strength in numbers by having all groups march together.

In bid for greater visibility, activists have secured the use of the largest Rainbow flag in San Antonio, the one used in the Pride Parade, the Prop 8 Rally at the Alamo and the National Equality March in Washington D.C.

Organizers are asking that GLBT groups meet at 9 a.m. on January 16 at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 3503 Martin Luther King Drive, near the starting point of the march.

San Antonio's march is considered to be one of the largest in the nation. The MLK Commission estimates that over 100,000 marchers will participate.
