Pride San Antonio gears up for big celebration

Organizers at Pride San Antonio are busy putting the final touches on plans for the city's annual Pride celebration, which this year falls on July 5. Additionally, Pride S.A. is sponsoring events before and after the big day. The theme of this year's celebration is "Freedom to Live, Freedom to Love."

Beneficiaries for this year's events are Fiesta Youth, GALA of San Antonio College, GLBTQ of University of Texas at San Antonio, Mujeres Unidas and PFLAG San Antonio.



Softball Tournament
The Pride Bigger Than Texas Softball Tournament is scheduled for June 21 and 22 at Lambert Beach Field at Brackenridge Park. Registration is $175 per team (12 players). Registration includes participant t-shirt and umpire fees for the first two games. Umpire fees for finals are the responsibility of the qualifying teams. Mr. and Miss San Antonio Pride Pageant
The Mr. and Miss San Antonio Pride Pageant will be held on Friday, June 20 at the Bonham Exchange at 10 p.m. Interested contestants should contact Sasha Taylor at pageant@pridesanantonio.org.

Grand Marshal Meet and Greet
Everyone is invited to meet the Grand Marshal of the Pride Parade on Friday, July 4 at the Bonham Exchange at 6 p.m.

Pride San Antonio Festival
The Pride festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 5 at Crockett Park. Entertainment headliners include: Shangela, drag queen, comedian, reality television personality and contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race; singer and song writer Christopher Anton of the synthpop band Information Society; and singer and songwriter Tom Goss.

Rainbow Dash
The Rainbow Dash 1 Mile Fun Run, which is sponsored by Iniguez Athletic Advertising and Promotions, will take place on July 5 at 8 p.m. along the parade route. Registration application and participant waiver must be completed and received by Pride San Antonio prior to the race along with online registration receipt. Krystal Kelly Running of the Queens High Heel Race
The High Heel Race is open to all and will be held on July 5 at 8:30 p.m. along the parade route.



Pride Parade
The Pride Bigger Than Texas Parade begins at 9 p.m. on July 5. The route begins at East Dewey and Main Street near the Silver Dollar Saloon and heads south to its end at Lexington Avenue near the Saint.

Pride SA Volleyball Tournament
Pride San Antonio's annual Sand Volleyball Tournament is slated for July 19 at 5 p.m. at Sideliners Grill, 15630 Henderson Pass. Registration is $15 per person (pre-registration, $20 day of tournament). There will be door prize give-aways and awards to the top the teams. Click here for more information.

Scary Fairy RainBoo 5K
The Scary Fairy RainBoo 5K is a family fun run-walk held in October. No date has yet been announced. The 5K is a family oriented event with age group awards and a costume contest. Contest awards will be given to the top three contestants. Click here for more information.

San Antonio Q Fest
San Antonio QFest International Film Festival meetings are planned for June 14 and 28 at Cafe College at 2 p.m. QFest is committed to bringing awareness of the LGBTQ community to the greater San Antonio region. To achieve this goal the festival showcases films which "illustrate the community being created for, by and about the LGBTQ community." No date or venue has yet been announced.

Pride Meetings
Pride San Antonio general membership meetings are held on Wednesdays at Luby's Cafeteria, 911 N. Main Avenue, at 7:30.
