JUNE 21, 2011 KLRN PRIDE --
Independent Lens: Two Spirits
Fred Martinez was one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history
when he was brutally murdered at 16. This film explores the life and death
of a boy, who was also a girl, and the essentially spiritual nature of
gender. KLRN, channel 9, Tuesday, June 21, 10:00pm. More info:PBS.org/independentlens/two-spirits/
JUNE 23, 2011 KLRN PRIDE --
Fatherhood Dreams
A poignant and revealing look at the day-to-day lives of gay dads. The
program, a Canadian production, profiles four individuals who are fathers
through adoption, co-parenting and surrogacy. Their private journey through
fatherhood forces them to deal with much larger issues that affect gay
fathers, including the legal aspects of surrogacy, the complexity of "open
adoption," and the controversy over recognition of LGBT and multi-parent
families. KLRN, channel 9, Thursday, June 23 at 9 p.m. More info: fatherhooddreams.com/
JUNE 30, 2011KLRN PRIDE --
Out in America
An uplifting collection of unique, transformative stories and inspiring
personal narratives told through the lens of the country's most prominent
LGBT figures and pioneers, as well as many average, yet extraordinary,
citizens from Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities. Against
the backdrop of historical events, each also traces their own hopes, struggles,
influences and contributions towards advancements in equality and broad
social change. KLRN, channel 9, Thursday, June 30, 9:00pm
JUNE 30, 2011 KLRN PRIDE --
POV: Beyond Hatred
In September 2002, three skinheads were roaming a park in Rheims, France,
looking to "do an Arab," when they settled for a gay man instead.
Twenty-nine-year-old Francois Chenu fought back fiercely, but he was beaten
unconscious and thrown into a river, where he drowned. This film is the
story of the crime's aftermath; above all, of the Chenu family's brave
and heartrending struggle to seek justice while trying to make sense of
such pointless violence and unbearable loss. With remarkable dignity,
they fight to transcend hatred and the inevitable desire for revenge.
KLRN, channel 9, 10 p.m. More info: PBS.org/pov/BeyondHatred/
